Welcome to the website of Blackfriar German Wirehaired Pointers.
Our wirehair kennel was established in 2002 with the importation of our foundation brood bitch Kate from the United Kingdom. Kate was a classic mix of strong English working and show lines and proved to be an excellent choice.
At Blackfriar we have always put emphasis on the working abilities of our gundogs and have tried to maintain the correct balance between the ANKC breed standards and the breed's working skills and heritage.
Blackfriar Kennels has recently moved from our farm just outside Canberra to England until late in 2011. The work move to the UK has allowed us to fulfill our lifelong ambition of working, trialling and showing our dogs here in the UK - the home of field sports and working gundogs - against the very best of competition.
We have taken two young bitches over with us, Kobnko B Coz U Can RRD (Meg) and Aust Ch Blackfriar Bavaria (Ruby) who are both thriving in the game rich environments of rural England. Both girls have started working as "picking up" dogs on shooting estates and as rough shooting HPR's. They have also commenced their formal FT training and are showing excellent hunting, pointing and retrieving skills on all types of feather and fur game including pheasant, partridge, woodcock, duck, goose, rabbit and hare as well as deer. Meg is now competing successfully in the 2009 FT season. It is our intention to bring back some new German working bloodlines when we return to Australia.
